And then there's Paul Roper, (at least formerly) of Ensign Computers in
Provo, Utah (Hi, Paul!), who delivers his own versions of BASIC, DOS, etc.,
named (appropriately enough):

pbasic
pdos

etc. In all fairness, he's a crack programmer, and has turned out some fine
code.

This actually fits two threads -- the one in the subject line, and the
one about programming language names. One of the best language names
was JOVIAL -- Jule's Own Version of IAL (International? Algebraic Language).

You omitted PBUG, PNET, PSPELL, and perhaps a few more.

Indubitably. Also a good friend, but we did kid him about having to have
his name on the cover of the reference manual. And since he left, we have
had an AWKward time explaining what the "P" in PDOS stands for -- when we
sold a basic interpreter to Texas Instruments, we told them it was really
POWER BASIC -- a case of make up your mind first and adjust the facts
accordingly. PDOS is still a popular real-time operating system. We've
experimented with renaming it SPEED DOS but nothing every came of the
attempt.

This is sort of on the same lines...every .EXE file under MS-DOS contains the
initials of the Microsoft programmer (forgot the name) that wrote the
majority of MS-DOS...the first two bytes, in ASCII, are MZ...

There's also another MS product, GW-Basic, which is explained being acronym
of 'Gee Which Basic' by mister *W*illiam *G*ates ...
