Unix-like discussion in fiction?

Within the last couple of years, there was a request for some computer-like
dialogue for a piece of fiction for the friend of the poster. I think that
this had been in the comp.unix.* newsgroups although it may have been in others
that I do not read. Anyhow, the recent novel in the Asimov-supported series
_Robots and Aliens_, _Maverick_, has a chapter where two roboticists are trying
to debug the programming for a polymorphing ship. Funny, that they yacc, lint
and awk the code as well as talking in hex.

Does anyone know if these two events are related, or is their relationship
purely coincidental?
