The recent Nova (or Horizon over here) stated that the Space Telecscope is
still using early 1970's computing technology! I dunno if they have
upgraded this in the last couple of years.

There was a very good article in BYTE several years ago (early 80's) called
'One Step forward, Three Steps Backup'. Well worth reading.

The 1802 is the computer of choice on the last few OSCAR satelites (Orbital
Satelitte Carrying Amateur Radio) -- they're rad-hard. The Inmos Transputer
will be used on the next mission (4 off -- multiprocessing in space).

Cheers,
Kevin

Of the seven ham radio satellites launched this year, 2 from U of
Surrey (UO-14,15) use the 1802; the 4 microsats (AO-16,DO-17,WO-18,LU-19)
use an NEC V-40, and I dunno what's in the Japanese satellite FO-20.

It seems I was misinformed; Harold Price says the UOSats have 80C186s
in them.
