I don't know how widespread this is, but if I type 'ESC-x psychoanalyze-pinhead'
in EMACS, it gives me an ELIZA-like intaraction mode...
Neat!

Well, considering that it comes with the standard GNUemacs sources, and lots and lots of people are running GNUemacs, it's probably pretty common. Also note that "psychoanalyze-pinhead" is simply emacs' "doctor" routine (an implementation of ELIZA) talking to emacs' "yow" routine (which spits out fabricated Zippy quotes). You can run M-x doctor by itself to talk to eliza, or run M-x yow to get a Zippy quote in your mini-buffer.... Yes, sir, emacs -- the editor that has everything -- including the kitchen sink! Actually, you can do "M-x yow" to get a message from "Zippy the pinhead"
and you can do "M-x doctor" to get the ELIZA mode... typing what you indicated
loops the output of one to the input of the other, resulting in some very
humorous "conversation"... it's all saved in an EMACS buffer for you to look
at later, as it scrolls by awfully fast...
EMACS is god!

I think John Kohl came up with the original kitchen sink icon (or was it
Bill Sommerfeld?). Ah, the glory days of the Athena Student

I just ftp'd 18.54 sources from prep.ai.mit.edu, and psychoanalyze-pinhead is there. It's also in 18.55. Perhaps your loaddefs.el file has been edited to remove psychoanalyze-pinhead, so you have to load the yow library by hand before you can use it? Or perhaps you're looking at an incomplete emacs-lisp library? (BTW, the reason I'm posting this instead of E-mailing it is that I find the idea of any feature ever being *removed* from GNUemacs so frightening that I don't want even the suggestion that this has occurred go unchallenged (1/2 :-)). You're right -- it is there -- but I had to load 'loaddefs.el' before it could find it.
