I worked for a credit union as a systems programmer in 1979. On New Years Day all the applications people were called in because all their applications had started failing. Believe it or not, their date fields had only one digit for the year! The funny part is that the following New Years, they had to be called back in for exactly the same reason. They had come in and just inserted 'IF YEAR = "0" THEN...' into the code. A whole year passed and no one thought to fix the thing!
