Which Notebook?I have this headache of choosing a notebook for my university use. I was hoping any computer guru out there would be kind enough to offer me some help. I would be using the notebook for programming (JAVA), for website-designing, for graphics, multimedia authoring(Director) hopefully, and also word processing. I created a table to highlight what the important factors are to me. I may be wrong, but I have this view that Celeron is inferior to Pentium II. My budget is actually <$4000, but now I am wondering whether extra few hundred dollars might be worth the extra hard disk and screen size. [The specific models are below the table.]

      Notebook 1 2 3 4 5
      Processor PII300 Cel366 PII400 Cel400 PII400
      Hard Disk 4.8 GB 4.0 GB 10.0 GB 4.0 GB 9.3 GB
      RAM 64 MB 64 MB 64 MB 128 MB 64 MB
      Price S$3738 S$2492 S$4224 S$2795 S$4415
Brand Acer Compaq Compaq Toshiba Toshiba
Weight 1.8 (without CDrom & FDD) 3.0 kg (with CDrom & FDD) < 2.0 kg (without CDrom & FDD) 3.0 kg (with CDrom & FDD) UNKNOWN
      Screen Size 12.1" 12.1" 14.1" 12.1" 14.1"
      Warranty(international doesn't matter to me) 1 year (carry-in) 2 years (local) 3 years (on-site) 3 years (on-site) 3 years (on-site)
FDD & CDrom External Internal External Internal Internal
Modem (my school is providing a "Network & Modem Adapter") Yes No No No No
Special Stuff Looks cool and is very light. Was a winning notebook in a Taipei thing. Acer is not reputed for notebooks though. And the 1 year warranty is suspicious. Also has a 3D graphics accelarator (dunno what that means) Was rated 5th in "Top 5 Notebook" Survey by PCMagazine. Cheapest here. Like its light weight but hate ugly docking bays and like its power. Cheap...128 MB of RAM. Powerful. Often read about. Price a little steep. the steepest of all in fact.

S$1 approx = US$1.7

1: Acer Travelmate 330T -- 2: Compaq Armada 1500C -- 3: Compaq Armada MS --

4: Toshiba Satellite 2590CDT -- 5: Toshiba Tecra 8000S

I would be grateful if you would drop me an email or simply reply to this NG, as to which notebook you would choose.
