My three favorite DEC error messages/statuses... RSX on PDP-11s could return a status from a network QIO indicating that there was no path to the target node. Its mnemonic was IE.NFW... One must presume that the NFW stood for "NO F*CKING WAY". An early time sharing computer took advantage of the architecture of the machine it was running on to efficiently shuffle programs in core, but it could only do it to lower addresses. As time went by and more programs entered and exited, someone would get into a state where his process could shuffle no lower. The error message would tell the user "30K of memory available - but not for you." The VMS mnemonic for too many redirects is SS$_TOOMANYREDS... The person that wrote it must have been getting awful sleepy, nicht wahr?
