AN INTERESTING EXPERIMENT
What would it be like to have an extra source of income coming into your
life, without having to resort to more hours of work? Dorothy and I
have done some thinking and decided that seeing what the internet could
do with an old-fashioned money game will be an interesting experiment
towards creating an extra source of income. This is the first time we
are doing this.
A few months ago, I was surfing the net, much like you, scrolling across
dozens of "Make More Money!!" posts when one suddenly caught my eye.
The author had written that the key to the money he had made was not
just the posting of haphazard messages over a few newsgroups, but in
fact scanning the newsgroups for their size, choosing the largest ones
and posting to 200 or more. That got me thinking. Before I got around
to completing some numbers, the University Computing Commons announced
that they would be closing in a few minutes. I packed up my stuff, and
soon forgot all about the message, save for that the guy said that he
had earned over $50,000 over the course of three months!
Recently, my girlfriend Dorothy and I were talking about our plans for
the summer. We want to travel to Italy to visit the society of
Damanhur, but we both have a ways to go in building up money for the
trip. While thinking up creative ways to earn money, I suddenly
remembered the post and we decided to start our own money game. What
we've come up with looks promising on paper, but in order to test it
fully, we need people who can look these numbers over themselves, make
up their own minds about how profitable it really is, and then be
willing to follow through for the return the numbers promise.
So what are these numbers we've worked out?
The process works by sending $2 in the mail to the five people on this
list, then adding your address to the bottom and moving the rest up one,
thus removing the top address.
(In this sense it's just like a classic chain letter, but watch what can
happen over the internet!)

YOUR ADDRESS
Then, post this list to 200 newsgroups, making sure that each newsgroup
has at least 50 messages already in it. This is one of the keys. If
you take a conservative guess and assume that 1 out of 3 people in the
newsgroup actually post messages, then a newsgroup with 50 messages at
any given time will have about 150 people surfing it. If you pick 200
groups like these, your message will be seen by at least 30,000 people!
(If only 1 out of 5 or 1 out of 10 people post in the newsgroup, then
the number of surfers will be MUCH higher.) This is where the internet
beats the standard chain-letter hands down. It would be insane to pay
for sending mail to 30,000 people even though it would assure the
success of the chain letter. With the internet, 30,000 people is as
simple as a point and click!
Now, if only 1 in 100 people decide to follow through on the letter,
that would still mean that 300 people would be sending you $2 for being
#5 on the list, earning you a $600 return on the $10 total you sent to
the people on your list.
However, this is just the beginning!
Those 300 people, if they follow the instructions correctly, will each
be posting your address as #4 to 200 newsgroups, making 60,000
messages! It was at this point that Dorothy did not even want to do the
math guessing at the readership. (I estimated 9 million people, but
wanted to keep our calculations on the conservative side.) Even if only
one out of a hundred messages were answered, you would still get 600
people sending you $2, for a return of $1,200 for being #4.
At this point, we decided to keep the math REALLY simple, and assume
that each message would only be read once. Here's how it panned out.
600 people * 200 newsgroups = 120,000 messages
120,000 messages * 1 message answered per hundred = 1,200 responses
1,200 responses * $2 = $2,400 returned to you as #3.
1,200 people * 200 newsgroups = 240,000 messages
240,000 messages * 1 message answered per hundred = 2,400 responses
2,400 responses * $2 = $4,800 returned to you as #2.
2,400 people * 200 newsgroups = 480,000 messages
480,000 messages * 1 message answered per hundred = 4,800 responses
4,800 responses * $2 = $9,600 returned to you as #1.
TOTAL MONEY RECEIVED=
$600 at #5
$1200 at #4
$2400 at #3
$4800 at #2
$9600 at #1
--------------
$18,600 TOTAL
These numbers are extremely conservative. They assume that each post
will be read by only one person. As you know, newsgroup messages last
for around a week, with dozens if not hundreds of people reading them.
Our numbers also assume that everyone responding to this message will
stop at 200 posts. The message I originally read stated that the reason
that the guy made over $50,000 was that he posted the message to 200
newsgroups EACH WEEK. By doing that, he effectively had started a new
chain each week, multiplying his returns. I plan to be doing the same
thing for a month. I hope to have my last set of messages report how
much I have made from this experiment.
Well, there you have it. These are the numbers Dorothy and I have
calculated, and we're willing to invest ten singles, five envelopes, and
postage into this experiment. If these calculations look sound to you,
and you think the returns might be worth your time, then, by all means,
play the game with us. If you want to add anything along with your
address to this message please feel free to do so. Remember, however,
that it is the $2 per address and 200 newsgroups that make these numbers
work. If those parts are changed or left out, the chain won't work for
you. So please leave them intact, so that the people reading this after
you can keep things flowing your way. This way, everyone can benefit.
Wishing All of Us Prosperity,
Ease & Abundance,
Dorothy & Norman
