Nothing against them at all, so long as they stick to writing
papers and books exploring data structures, algorithms, language paradigms
and all that other fundamental stuff that eventually leads to useful tools
or helps us pick the right tool for a job because someone took the time to
analyse it in detail.

Get one writing code for a project with a deadline that has to be
maintained by trained monkeys for the next decade and they're a real
liability.
