I used Word when working in environments in which interoperability was important until the day I was in a meeting, everyone had their laptops open to the same Word document, and no two were rendered the same. Time to go ahead and use Libre Office. Besides 99% of the documents I see could only be said to have used the simplest formatting features if one were impossibly generous. I once created a memo and used a table for the To, From, Subject fields -- when I got it back, the table had been taken out and those fields had been "formatted" using tabs.
