When I started using the IBM 360 mainframe at the University of New Mexico, they still had a 7 track tape drive which was around for reading obsolete tapes. Just curious...does anyone still have a working 7 track drive? What were the advantages/disadvantages of 7 track as opposed to 9 track? BTW, the 9 track drive had low, medium, and high densities in those days: 200 BPI, 556 BPI, and 800 BPI. 1600 and 6250 hadn't even been thought of... -- Jeremy Epstein TRW Systems Division 703-876-8776 jje%v...@uunet.uu.net
