An interesting case of what you don't know hurting you. One of the assignments
in a class I took was to implement a multiuser (up to four) interterminal
communication server/client system. There were actually two computers that one
could do this on: one that had all the games and news on it and the other that
I used since the load was low. Over a period of about a week (and my
instructor will probably correct this if his reads it!) the games machine was
up in the morning and down in the afternoons. Apparently, someone's program
kept crashing the system; we all get messages to discontinue the assignment.
Apparently, the program exploited a bug in the operating system that kept
crashing the system. Fortunately, this was fixed in the next release of the
system.

Question: anyone know why the VMS system has a clock that starts about
November 15 in the late 1800's? UNIX's clock is a round number like midnight
of January 1, 1970.
