Not too long ago, I brought a couple of junior-high aged hacker types down to my office to show them around. They're quite good at figuring out how to maximize points on their home video games, so naturally believe they're computer wizards. Of course, even the best of the VT100-based games on our VAX are dry and dull in comparison, so they couldn't quite see why I was so proud of our systems. Lacking anything better to do, I put them into ADVENT and let them go for a while. Believe it or not, they got quite interested, and got pretty far. The grand-daddy of the computer games is interesting even to the current crop of Nintendo freaks, if it's all that's available. In fact, they wouldn't stop playing! I had to go away and set up a batch job to send a fake "please log off" message and terminate their session to get them to quit. Fortunately, they don't make multitasking Nintendo yet, so they didn't suspect me of foul play.
