Discovered discovered discovered. > DISCOVERED ! Do you think so? The phenomena that maths is used to examine are discovered, surely, but maths itself *is* invented. It is a human-created system to deal with certain relationships. If humans hadn't existed the moon would still orbit the earth in exactly the same way (give or take the effect of a few minuscule impacts and the infinitesimal resiting of the moon's CG due to some seismometers and LAM bases on the surface). The behaviour would be out there, waiting to be discovered and analysed by slime molds when they get round to it. But the maths we use to describe it would not exist and would have to be invented. Slime molds would have little incentive to go for base 10; I wonder what they'd come up with? -- Peter
