Even the newest 10 Gbps USB can be added with an add on card and front
panel connectors. OTOH YMMV, for example the 5 Gbps front panel ports
I've added to my old desktop PC don't seem to go as fast as back panel
ports. And then again, I built a little USB SSD recently and it doesn't
seem to quite saturate 5 Gbps USB but it's still wicked fast so probably
not bothering with 10 Gbps ports.
For my old X201 Thinkpad, an upgrade would bring faster USB and faster
wifi but it's not a big deal.
