I was pretty young when I first saw it, and had trouble getting to sleep that night. An invisible monster with almost unlimited power... that's about as scary as it gets. Speaking of scary (even if somewhat cheezy), does anyone remember "The Magic Sword"? 2001 advanced the state of the art in special effects in 1968 - and Star Wars (despite its weak plot) advanced it again in 1977. Effects from both have been plagiarized/emulated/parodied many times since then.
