The first one, now number 4, was the best sf movie since Forbidden Planet. My high school buddies and I had given up ever seeing a good sf movie again. I was in a small nothing town out in Texas when the first movie came out. I drove over, expecting maybe 10 or 20 people in line to see it. The line was over 500 feet long. The next showing, in an hour, was sold out. I stayed in line and bought a ticket, one of the few left, for the next showing. It was packed. People laughed, cried, cheered, etc. thoughout the movie. My parents asked me what was wrong when I got home. All I could say was 'wow'. I said substantionaly much more after watching Forbidden Planet.
