Much computer equipment from that era was strappable for 120V/240V. The only place you're likely to run into trouble is things like disk drives, and they often had internal jumpers to select the proper voltage. Frequency is another concern on disk drives, but this was often a pulley / belt change. > We mainly want them to go to a good home, not be crunched - so not > chasing dollars. If a system can be made operational, or at least the faults determined, there is probably someone who will take it and either get it working or use it for parts. Even if that is beyond your staff's ability, it is almost always worth saving as many pieces as possible in the hope that they will be useful to someone else, or as a spare for a similar piece of equipment that you currently have in working condition. Plus, it is a lot less work to send someone a bunch of boards than it is to move an entire cabinet (the boards might even come back to the US, for example, while it is unlikely the whole cabinet would leave your corner of Australia). > Is there any newsgroup where we could list items we are considering > throwing and get some feedback on their significance? > Would a web site showing some pictures of each item entice a response ? In this case, I'd suggest signing up on the Vintage Computer Forum - the DEC group is here: http://www.vcfed.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?23-DEC
