Whereas my old PC (about five years old now) works fine and has
fully up to date software (OS and applications) that also works fine and
does the right thing with 30 year old data files (my oldest) as well as ones
from today. I've had a consistent UI of my choice for over twenty years now.

I could quite easily use the data files I was using 40 years ago -
if I still had them. I can certainly compile and run 40 year old source
code.

The main thing I notice is that the web browser takes an ever
increasing proportion of the resources - at some point I will have to
upgrade this workstation to something that can take more memory just to
keep the browser happy.
