The worth of the shares may be reduced to zero, but there is still a lot
of value in the company to be sucked out. Go to any bankruptcy hearing,
and notice how the vultures battle to have 'their' men in charge of
winding up the company.

I noticed this many years ago, when an outfit called, I think, IOS (a
thing to allow overseas US citizens to invest without being liable for
US taxes) went belly up. the name 'Bernie Cornfeld' comes to mind.

Anyway, whatever was left was rapidy moved on elsewhere.

The film 'The producers' dealth  with that sort of thing.
