My belief is that it's a _printable_ character that got messed up on its 
way to Usenet. I've seen that particular weird character before in a lot of 
posts. I think perhaps the Macintosh isn't fully Unicode-compliant due to 
it having supported an extended character set prior to Unicode coming 
along.
