YMMV (obviously *does* vary). I use a MacBook Pro at work and actually
find its trackpad very pleasant to work with. A lot of handy gestures
there.

On PC laptops the quality is a lot more variable, I suppose. If yours is
terrible I'd go with Scott's advice.
