So it doesn't go in you, but the vest spreads the force out, so there's a bad bruising. And if tv is correct, it can knock the wind out of you. This is certainly a plot point, someone shot and everyone else believing they are dead, only for them to recover and reveal the bulletproof vest. And real SWAT guys where helmets with visors, so their heads are reasonably protected. Michael
