Since US cops mostly use (semi)automatic pistols these days, substitute 9mm or .40S&W, which aren't quite as energetic. But in any case, that is why a knapsack of privilege is superior, because it protects you before they pull the trigger. It would help afterwards, too, but being surrounded by a bevy of politicians fanning you and declaiming about what a terrible mistake has occurred isn't really the desired outcome, though it's still better than having the cop empty his pistol into you and leave you lying on the pavement.
