Well, according to all stuff I have read about this, the story
goes like this:

In about '69, DEC planned to build a 16-bit machine, and set up two design
teams to come up with two 16-bit designs. One was done by DeCastro, and
one was done by Gordon (or at least they two were involved in the two
designs).
However, DEC choose to go ahead with the Gordon design, scrapping
the DeCastro model. DeCastro then quit DEC, and founded Data General,
and the first machine was immediately released, and called Nova.
DEC considered that the Nova was made at DEC, and was *very* pissed
off at DG for many years (still is?).

I don't think the Nova is much older than 1970, and the pdp-11
was released in 1970, so I think there is some truth to this story.
I don't remember for sure, but I think I read it in
A DEC view on hardware design, or what the book is called, written by
Gordon.

Remember that the pdp8 was released in 1965, so DeCastro was busy until
than time. The Nova was designed after that. (DeCastro made the pdp8).

Is there anybody with more exact info on this piece of important computer
history?

Everybody know that the DECstation	- I'm on a bus
is a pdp8, which is a RISC, but - on a psychodelic trip,
where did MIPS computers get into it?	- reading murder books
					- and tryin' to stay hip.
