I almost forgot two wonderful acronyms which came from MS theses in the
Computer Science Dept. here:
1) We had a PDP-11 running various flavors of v7 and 2bsd UNIX, which had
an 8-inch floppy drive. Addressing our need to read floppies in formats
from other systems, one student wrote the MUltiple-Format Floppy
Interface: MUFFI
2) Another student devised an access method (ask your local mainframe
sufferers about access methods :-) for a little database system. I'm
sorry that I can't remember the full name, but the acronym was a
take-off on all those wonderful IBMisms like ISAM, VTAM, etc: IBDAM
