Ah, C I/O.. finishing up the project of my introductory C course, I
wrote a subroutine called write for printing out the results. I admit
that I should have been more imaginative.. As it happens, the standard
libraries (MSC 4.0) already had one which was used for all formatted
output, so the first printf caused stack overflow due to nonterminating
recursion.. This one took over a WEEK of my and my teachers' time
because the linker did NOT complain about the redefinition!

At another time I was programming an embedded telecommunications system
with Intel's PL/M-80. I defined a four-character string and initialized
it with five - Sloppy! A compiler error did NOT halt the batch file I
had and the linker happily linked the symbol table the compilation
produced but NO CODE. So my program had a "window" that showed the code
of the previously executed program; it was fun to debug a program which
abruptly started executing the stack segment of a neighboring process..

I dislike linkers.
