THEN there's the story of this guy who just bought an Archimedes 410, and was trying to install a hard drive. He hooks up the power supply, closes the casing, revs everything up, and tries to format the drive. An orange "hard-disk access" light comes on, and he thinks everything's okay. ...but the format program just sits there, the light going "whir-whir" and the drive going "whir whir." Power down, open casing, try formatting the drive but this time with the drive on top of the case. Orange light comes on again during format...but it's not from the hard drive. Turns out the Archimedes has a "phantom light" tied in with the hard drive interface somehow, that should parrallel the HD's own light. Turns out that the HD's light *never* went on because there was no interface cable linking it would the machine! Roger r...@ihlpn.ATT.COM (Too bad it was me. :-/ Too bad the drive still didn't work with a cable. :-(
