Whoa! Hold it. TECO is very much alive, as far as I know.
I runs one of these beautiful pdp8:s at home, and I wish
everybody could get a chance to use that machine, it is
really something different from todays programming, and
as far as I'm concerned, the old machines are much more
enjoyable, and "hackier".
If anybody is interested, I have a small EMACS macro written
in TECO-8 V7 (OS/8 TECO is (was) the only TECO officially
supported by DEC).
Also, speaking of hidden messages, I can add this one.
At the end of the pdp8 era at dec (around '79) they
released a macro assembler, called MACREL, since it
was MACRO, and generated relocatable code, which is
a bit different on a pdp8 compared to a pdp11 or such
modern designs.
However, when you compiled a file, you could give
a switch, to get block letters at the head of the listing,
and also (undocumented) a nice picture...
As I'm running through my eight right now, I'll try to
insert it... (hold on)
