Repeat after me: It started on the Mac. It started on the Mac. It started
on the Mac....

In Windows 1.02 and 2.03, BillG tied up Alt for menu and command names
and treated Ctrl as though it carried some deadly contagion (which it
does, I suppose, from a would-be monopolist's point of view). His
"shortcuts" (*ptooey!*) for Cut, Copy, and Paste were Del, F2, and Ins.
The ZXCV suite * came * from * the * Mac * (with Cmd as the modifier, of
course; we don't need no steenking standards-based command keystokes...).

Regarding keyboard layouts used for different languages, here are some:

Belgian and French A Z E R T Y U I O P
                              Q S D F G H J K L M
                               W X C V B N

German and Swiss Q W E R T Z U I O P
                              A S D F G H J K L
                               Y X C V B N M

Danish, Dutch, Italian, Q W E R T Y U I O P
Norwegian, Portuguese, A S D F G H J K L
Spanish, Swedish, UK, USA Z X C V B N M

And don't forget Dvorak P Y F G C R L
(U.S. Dvorak, I'd guess) A O E U I D H T N S
                                 Q J K X B M W V Z
