In article <48...@sugar.hackercorp.com>, peter@sugar (Peter da Silva) writes: ]You're out of step. The TI machines of the day were the 58C and the 59. I had ]a 59, and it was much faster than the HP 67 or HP 41 on every benchmark I ]tried. I know I did Euclid's algorithm and Newton's method. This was before ]the seive, or I'd have done that too. Note that the 58 and 59 competed against the 41. The 45 was much lower end; it was not programmable (at least in any way I knew of), and it came out much earlier. The 55 and 57 really competed against machines such as the 31 (and the other low 30-series, which were H-P's entry level machines). The 45 blew either of these machines out of the water on things like 69! (the largest factorial you could take without overflow). ]TI Australia had a newsletter for us "big spenders" (or maybe it was a user ]group thing), and they were talking about a machine with user programmable ROM ]modules, tentatively named the TI-60. It never came out. I don't know if it ]was killed when the calculator market crashed, or if it was just smoke to keep ]people from going out and buying HP 41Cs. I wound up getting a 57 free (but broken). I also got a 55-II by similar means. This machine was very different from the 55 -- LCD display, slim line, small batteries, more stuff, etc. BTW, I saw something in a store recently called the TI-60. -- ames >>>>>>>>> | Robert Krawitz <r...@think.com> 245 First St. bloom-beacon > |think!rlk (postmaster) Cambridge, MA 02142 harvard >>>>>> .
