The Casio CZ-101 digital synthesizer has a similar bug. I changed the
batteries in mine with it turned on once, and the data left in memory
was basically random, though most of the patches were silent.

I picked one and started programming a patch from a magazine article,
when to my surprise, it began to play a very strange sound. After some
experimentation, I found that not only did the sound contain a pretty
neat set of harmonics and a great filter sweep, it was also generating
Shepard tones in reverse! That is, the pitch went down forever. (This
is done by setting up oscillators to change pitch and then wrap around
when they reach the end. Normally, these also are faded. In my case,
the fades were gone when the filter sweep was finished).

I looked at some of the data, and things like envelope rates of '>'
and '&' showed up. In other words, there is no check in the program
for values that are too high. You can't increment or decrement out
of range, but random data isn't repaired.

Sadly, I was unable to save the patch, and I eventually lost it.
