The lab assignments required designing a system to the given specifications and then building it. Students would sometimes cheat by using the design of a student who'd taken the course in a previous term. One year, someone wired up his kit from someone else's old lab 3 design *without noticing that the new lab 3 had entirely different specs*. He was caught when he asked the TA to help him figure out why his kit wasn't working.
