Ever heard of head alignment?  Your work or home or both computer disk
drives may need alignment.  I've also seen this kind of problem solved
by having the reading computer (work for you I guess) be the one who
formats the disk.

Frankly, the coldness and cruelty of most of the people who chastize 
violators of the rule to have read the FAQ before posting is so appalling 
to me that not reading the FAQ has become for me a way of asserting the 
value of human kindness.  Besides, if these cruel people had anything to 
do with the authorship of the FAQ, I especially do not want to read it.
