Newbie to AFU, not sure if this is on topic (haven't read FAQ, but
plan to), however, this reminded me of something similar which I also
witnessed firsthand.

I was a student aide in my college's computer lab back in '88, long
before OCR technology and scanners were common. A student called me
over to help him. His English teacher was encouraging people to
prepare their essays on computer, so he had carefully written out his
first draft on paper and was trying to insert the piece of paper into
the floppy drive so that the computer could "read" it. He had no idea
why the computer was not displaying his essay on the screen.

They came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't
a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I
wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up
because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I
didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by
that time there was no one left to speak up.
